Help us bring 3 year old Patrick home to his father & family before the holidays!
I have helped raise Patrick with my fiance, Kevin, ever since he was a year old. We had joint custody with his mother who lives in Michigan, we live in North Carolina - Every 8 weeks we would alternate parenting time. That all changed earlier this year when his mother no longer wanted to let Patrick see his father - A father who loves him, grandparents who spoil him, an 8 year old half brother who could never wait to play with him, and me - his 2nd "mama" - who raised him like he was my very own son.
Now we're left heartbroken and I pray every single day that we can bring him home to the family who loves him before the holidays.
We didn't know that the day we dropped him off with his mother in March would be the last time we would see him. You see, we had to file a report against his mother with Child Protective Services when we picked Patrick up for our 8 weeks in January because he had multiple hand print bruises on his legs. On top of that, his skin was so dry he had blood marks all over his body from scratching himself so hard. This wasn't the first time he came home in bad shape, but it was the first time we had enough evidence to file a report against her. Unfortunately, CPS in North Carolina and Michigan did not do anything, so we had no choice but to return him to his mother in March after our 8-week parenting time was over.
Two days before we were scheduled to pick him up again (around May 1st), Patrick's mother sent Kevin a text stating that she filed an ex parte order (emergency temporary child custody order) that day and will not give Patrick back to us if the judge signed off on the order. Unfortunately, the judge signed it because he didn't know that the information that Patrick's mother gave him was false. She claimed that she was afraid that Kevin would kidnap her son, but if she was so fearful of that, why would she wait until her 8-week parenting time was almost over with to file an ex parte order? Better yet, we had no choice but to return him to her in March when Child Protective Services closed the case we had against her - Obviously no one was planning on kidnapping him other than her and her attorney, who helped her file the ex parte order. We never communicated with her between March and May, but we assume she was just retaliating against us for filing a CPS report against her for child abuse. We filed a response within the 14 day time frame providing proof and affidavits from multiple witnesses stating that the information she provided was false, but the courts in Michigan have not done anything to help us get him home again. They haven't even scheduled a hearing and it's been almost 6 months since we submitted our response/proof that she was lying and making false accusations.
We miss Patrick so much and it hurts us to know that we may not be able to see him again until we can afford an attorney in Michigan to help us fight for him. With the holidays quickly approaching, I wanted to create this page so that his father, me (his 2nd "mama"), his half brother, and his grandparents could have some hope that we would be able to see him before the holidays arrive. If you have money to spare so that we can hire an attorney in Michigan, we would appreciate it more than you'll ever know. I am also willing to trade my skills in social media marketing for donations and/or legal help.
Please feel free to contact me for additional information or for copies of the court documents. We truly appreciate you reading about our cause and hope that you can help us bring Patrick home before the holidays.
Thank you and God Bless.
