Help Pay Joanne Voller's Fine

*Please Note: We already raised $1000 for Joanne's fine on Fundrazr but unfortunately the page came under attack from some vile racists from the Northern Territory who left some pretty sickening abuse in the comments section of the page, they also reported the page and as a result the campaign was suspended. The good news is that Fundrazr let us keep the money we had raised for Joanne so far and recommended that we transfer the campaign over to here at Funded Justice which is specifically set up for miscarriages of justice and legal issues. First Nations activist Joanne Voller was convicted and fined $2000 in a Northern Territory court on November 16th for assaulting a prison guard.

The Voller family are being targeted by Northern Territory police because of Joanne, Dylan and Kirra's unrelenting stance against the brutality, racism, violence and torture of the Youth Detention system, as evidenced by the findings of the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory.

The circumstances of the "assault" are telling, occurring shortly after the infamous Four Corners report about Don Dale detention centre was aired, a report that contained graphic footage of Joanne's son Dylan being tortured by prison guards.

Joanne was so distressed from viewing the report that she was taken to hospital. While she was waiting in the Emergency Ward she saw two prison officers escorting a prisoner who required medical treatment. Joanne stated that she became angered when she saw the prison guards and started yelling abuse at them, but has no recollection of assaulting them or attempting to assault them.

CCTV footage of the alleged "assault" was recorded over by the time police tried to obtain it, a delay they have blamed on "police officers' days off and other operational matters". So Joanne was convicted solely on the "evidence" of the two prison guards corroborating each other's statements.

Heavy fines and disproportionate charges are how the NT Police attempt to silence indigenous campaigners. When people can't pay these amounts, they end up in prison.

But we can help. Let's throw in some money so that Joanne is spared the indignity of paying this outrageous fine. With Christmas approaching, it is also important that this fine is taken care of before then, so Joanne can enjoy a stress free holiday season with her family.
