"Clock Kid" Ahmed Mohamed's family has issued a
demand letter, by and through their attorney. This demand letter states that
the city of Irving must pay up $10 million dollars to compensate the 14 year
old for violation of rights as well as damages the city has caused him. They
have also requested written apologies from the Mayor as well as the Police
Chief in town. He would also like to receive an additional $5 million dollars
from the Irving Independent School District.
The demand letter is written like a ransom letter would
read. "If you fail to comply with the above demands within sixty days from
the date of this letter, you should expect that we will file a civil action
addressing the causes of action and events described in this letter."
As if the national attention, meeting President Obama, and
having people like Steve Jobs acknowledge the ingenuity of the clock builder
wasn't enough. It has also been reported that the letter was sent to the media
prior to being sent to the actual city. According to TheBlaze.com, the demand
letter was sent to the City approximately an hour after it was sent to the
press, causing the Mayor of Irving to state, “Apparently, it was more important
to get the letter to the media first.” The town of Irving was turned into a
media circus, and is now being held ransom.
The Mohamed family has since moved to Qatar, and is working
through their attorneys stateside to try to obtain financial gain in this move,
calling the situation "arguably the most contentious and divisive socio-political
issue of our time.”
**This campaign is to raise funds to be donated to the City
of Irving in defending against this action. 100% of the net proceeds will be
donated to the City's Defense Fund.
