In 2009 my husband Kevin and I moved to Tennessee with our two children and started a small store called the Gun Shack.
We sold fire arms and ammunition as well as hunting accessories, something we enjoyed as a family and our own personal lives. Kevin began teaching me about firearms shortly after we were married, not only did he teach me fundamentals of how to use weapons but he gave me a deeply ingrained respect for the power that comes with carrying a gun. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
Never point the barrel of a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy. You must think of all guns as loaded at all times. These are the lessons that Kevin taught me for years while trap shooting or just shooting at plastic targets on the range. I am forever grateful for the teachings of my husband Kevin and we passed those same lessons to our children. In Aug of 2010, Michael Woodby and his family moved in across the street from our business. He came in asking about a fire arm and said that he had a problem with a felony of domestic assault and asked if we had anything off the books we could sell him. We said no we run a legitimate business and then asked if his wife could buy one we said no. After refusing to sell a firearm to Micheal or Theresa on the grounds of him having previous domestic assaults, he and his family began a barrage of harassment attacks including physical violence, screaming, and threatening our son Kolton with violence and death as well as falsified complaints to authorities. When presented with the evidence of this harassment the authorities of Luttrel, Tennessee did nothing to help Kevin or stop the flow of harassment. September 2013 Michael kept good on his threats and attacked Kolton and Kevin in the dark of night on the road outside their home with a four foot long fence post, bashing Kolton in the head, neck, and shoulder. During the attack Kevin acted in the only manner a father can when their child is being attacked and defended Kolton and himself at the cost of the neighbor's life.
Kevin has been charged with second degree murder for defending his and his son's life against an intoxicated, 6 foot 3" 300lb man beating his son with a club. Kolton has been charged with Facilitation of Second Degree Murder. During the trial any evidence that would support Kevin was denied and even a self-admitted personal acquaintance of the prosecuting attorney was allowed to stay on the jury. Despite what is perceived as a bias trial the jury was unable to agree. Now the prosecution plans to retry the case. The trial and lawyer fees have cost nearly 100,000 dollars costing Kevin, his home, business, and entire life savings. Without help Kevin will be forced to use the court appointed public defender instead of the professional attention this kind of trial requires.
All donations will go towards a private attorney that will represent the truth and Kevin's best interests.
