While every mother is a Supermom, my best friend, Paty Cortez has reinvented the meaning of Supermom. Whether or not you know her personally, I ask you to please, please, please read her story.
For the past year, Paty (single mother of three) has been working non-stop to, not only provide the regular necessities for her family, but to earn $37,000 for her son’s court trial. So far, she has earned ALL the money all by herself plus the money needed for everything else in life. Her two daughters are wonderful soccer players, and her eldest daughter recently made the competitive Villa team. Such wonderful news, but with wonderful news come another $650. She paid it. Paty has two full time jobs; working at a Chiropractic office and running her own tax business. As you can see, she is a very busy woman who still fits in the time for soccer, friends, family, church and the weekly drive to the Vista jail.
Her son’s court trial first occurred early last fall and was thought by many, including lawyers, to be an easy case since there was/is ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE POINTING HIM TO THE ALLEGED CRIME. $10,000 later, the final verdict came in as guilty. Needless to say everyone was shocked. (Even the opposing attorney seemed baffled…) Through tears, Paty clung to her son’s court suit and prayed to God to show her what to do next. Even though she was breaking inside, she knew she had to be strong for her girls. She dried her eyes, and set out to find another lawyer to take over the case. On Thursday, March 12, 2015, the judge officially granted a two-month extension in which to get a solid case together. Great news, but that means another $5,000 - $10,000. Now, on September 2, 2015, another verdict for the inadequate counsel case came back: Denied. There’s a long road ahead for Paty and her family, but I know that all her friends and family are going to be behind her until the very end. I know Paty is a fighter and that she will do whatever it takes to get that money, but as a friend who is unable to do anything about her son’s jail/prison time, I want to help in any way that I can. Paty works SO hard and deserves our support!! I LOVE YOU PATY AND WILL STAND BY YOU ALWAYS!

This is a touching story. God bless this family. She sounds like a great and hard working woman. I know it is so hard on her being a single mother and trying to fight for her son’s justice. You are a great friend for trying to help her. Keep her in your prayers because God will work everything out.
