James Moore is a great husband, father and stepfather, and friend. There’s just one thing—eleven years ago, James was wrongly charged and convicted of a crime he did not commit.
Someone James was previously involved with identified him as the person who attacked her, but James has always maintained his innocence and had alibi witnesses to support this. Isolated pieces of evidence were used by the prosecution to showcase his guilt, but contrary information wasn't presented to the jury. We are raising money to support the necessary investigation and high legal costs as we work to get his case back into court to prove his innocence. As his friends, we’ve been through the ups and downs. We had all the questions you’re asking, and talked directly to James and asked them. We’ve walked through the evidence, the testimony, the transcripts, the appeals. We are convinced of his innocence. We’ve written attorneys, and hoped. Lord, have we hoped.
And now, we have real live hope. Heather, James's wife, has retained an attorney who not only recognizes that there was a great deal of poor representation and inappropriate investigation, but who is also willing to actually do the work and put in the significant effort to try to appeal James' case.
We are helping Heather to raise money for the attorney’s fees needed for James' last chance at an appeal. Our goal is to raise $5000 for attorneys’ fees, Heather’s travel expenses to see James and meet with the attorney, and to keep the hope going. Their real need is much, much higher, but every little bit helps defray the costs.
