Kayla's Wish

Dear Family and Friends,
We are writing this letter in a desperate plea for my father, Francisco Salazar.
Most of you know his story, but for those who don’t he was sentenced to prison for 40 years without parole in 2011 with no evidence. During this time my aunt contacted several law offices only to be told she needed $15-50K just to begin. One of his closest friends contacted several organizations trying to find assistance but nothing because there was no evidence. She would leave messages for the attorney requesting an update on his appeal. This went on for two years with a response that an appeal was filed but it takes time. After one of our visits to Houston, she contacted the records department to inquire on obtaining a transcript of the trial. She was advised that an appeal had never been filed. The following day she visited the records department and showed up to his attorneys office. The gentleman that was there assured her everything had been filed and it would take time. She advised him that she had just left the courthouse and there was no record of an appeal. He looked through my dads file and said that the attorney would need to contact her. She continued to call the attorney daily until he spoke with her. He apologized for what had happened and assured her he would file it. Several months after continued follow up through the courthouse, she found it had been denied because it was filed in the wrong court and wrong case number. So again, leaving messages for the attorney, the attorney filed the appeal only this time it was denied for not filing in a timely manner. At which point, last November she contacted the State Board and her and my dad began the grievous process to file a complaint. This year in May he received notification that an investigation had been opened. Finally, last month he received notification that the attorney admitted fault and the State Board will be determining disciplinary action.
So, as you can see this road for my dad and for us has been rough but I haven't given up hope. My aunt found an attorney that can help us, please we humbly ask for your financial support.  We need to raise an initial $6,000 for his legal fees. These fees will cover the filing of a writ of habeas corpus and once that is granted file a motion for an appeal.  We know that everyone is stretched thin and it may seem like a lot of money but we ask that you prayerful consider making a donation of $100. Please know we will accept any donation amount, as every donation is truly appreciated. Please ANY amount will help, if you don't feel comfortable giving online then please mail check payable to either the attorney “Brittany Carroll Lacayo” or my aunt "Lori Kananen". Her address is 6727 Falling Waters Dr. Spring, Texas 77379.
Because time is crucial, we are asking for your help as soon as possible. The courts look at time frame, we have to act quickly on filing. We are willing to have any kind of fundraising, if you are able to help us and suggest an idea. My aunt and grandmother are preparing for a garage sale either the 2nd or 3rd weekend in January.
My dad has missed so many important moments in our life while in prison and we have missed him being there to share these with him. We love my dad and we cannot just sit back and do nothing we have to at least try. Please know this is not just for him but for me and the rest of his children. Our whole family misses him terribly. Thank again, for help and please pray that this nightmare will end soon.
In Christ,
Kayla N. Salazar, daughter
Lori (Salazar) Kananen, sister
