Cody Stewart was among the 230-people arrested in D.C. during Donald Trump's inauguration. Among those arrested were journalists, lawyers, medics, legal observers, & innocent bystanders who were not rioting, Cody was one of them. He is facing felony 2 rioting charges which carries a sentence of 10 years in prison and $25k.
Cody is a kind sweet person who has been committed to the movement. I have personally traveled across the country with Cody to support Bernie and can vouch for his kind heartedness and commitment to creating a better more loving world. Cody traveled to multiple states and worked locally canvassing for Bernie and Jill Stein, supports local actions, and traveled to the DNC to support Bernie and try to stop Trump. He lives modestly and does it all on his own dime.
Cody's expenses are going to be an estimated $7,000. He will have legal fees and travel to DC to fight these unjust charges. Please, pitch in what you can. Cody has been an active participant in the movement and needs us to have his back. The funds donated will be used to cover travel, accommodation, and legal fees associated with this court case. Any unused funds will be donated to other arrestees.
A little bit about Cody:

Cody Is from a city in Louisiana, growing up for him was rough as he lived in a broken home switching custody between parents on a frequent basis. This lead later in life to a Bipolar, PTSD, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder diagnoses, but it doesn't stop him from achieving his goals. For years he has worked in several minimum wage jobs building his work ethic and experience so he can save for college. Eventually he landed a job in a factory doing laser and robotics work. He wishes to be a Botanist or Organic Chemistry major and aslo study Political Science.

Cody discovered activism and politics recently within the past two years, it rapidly became his passion as he discovered a person has a voice that can and must be used to bring about positive change in his or her community. Cody started out traveling across the country as an unpaid volunteer on his own dime for the Bernie Sanders campaign establishing relationships, networking with folks across the country, canvassing and educating voters, phone banking long hours into the night calling voters across the country, and going to rallies to gain motivation. He personally met Bernie Sanders in Marshalltown Iowa during his first Bernie Journey. After discovering his newfound passion, he traveled to more state and cities including North Carolina, South Carolina, Illinois, Pennsylvania Washington DC completely on his own dime again. He has attended conferences in Chicago like the Peoples Summit to protesting corruption at the DNC. He met high profile figures like Jill Stein, Nina Turner, several folks from independent media, and artists Taking his experience back home just in time for the General Election he campaigned ferociously for Jill Stein and local democratic candidate David cutting. He went on to be the co-founder of Young Greens Rising of APSU. He participated in marches in Nashville too.

All of this came to a screeching halt after he went to DC to stand against Trump. While he cannot go into details for legal reasons, he wants you to know that he was denied basic human rights and suffered trauma from the event. When he got home he was a nervous wreck, this affected his livelihood and lifestyle dramatically. Being unable to leave the house for two months because of contestant panic attacks and a horrible uneasy ice-cold fear feeling in his chest he pushed through it. During this time, he worked on bettering himself and met Betty Rosemond,a Freedom Rider from the civil rights movement, one of his role models for nonviolent direct action. He started going to therapy to overcome his fear and in the process of doing so became closer to his family. Now he is regaining a sense of normalcy working full time with tons of overtime, working weekends for 50 days straight. With all this time at work he is still taking a hit financially struggling to make payments and spending his college savings. He no longer fears the petrifying ice cold anxiety in his chest most days, with an occasional weak day and can travel freely outside his home as before could only leave for 30 minutes to one hour before anxiety was too much to bear. We couldn't be prouder of Cody and his accomplishments and fighting for not only his future but our children’s future.
